About Us
I studied Environmental Science at UNC Charlotte and have worked with multiple organizations dedicated to conservation and sustainability. Including the NC Department of Agriculture's Plant Conservation Program, the Catawba Lands Conservancy, and the USDA.
After working for a commercial landscaping company, I realized many big landscaping operations are prioritizing the wrong things. For example, non-native ornamentals that don't support local insects or birds, and excessive fertilizer use that pollutes our waterways and degrades soil health instead of building it.
That's why I started NC Ecosmart. To help turn yards into mini ecosystems that support the wildlife and environment around us. Protecting wild, untouched natural spaces is fundamental to conservation, but I also believe our yards and neighborhoods can do much more to support the wildlife right outside our doors.
I'm still learning about ecology myself and am actively seeking ways to incorporate more sustainable, and ecologically beneficial approaches to everyday landscaping. If you're interested in building local environmental health, supporting local wildlife, and creating functional habitat in your own yard, I'd love to hear from you. Whether you're inquiring about services or have insights about how we can optimize the ecology of our community together.
